Who We Are

The Bible commands us to "obey the rulers that have authority" over us. Likewise, we are also commanded to "welcome strangers." So how does a Christian reconcile these mandates when it comes to immigration in the United States?

We believe one way to minister to immigrants is to help them comply with the sometimes confusing and complex immigration regulations. To help achieve this, the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) and Buckner Children and Family Services, Inc. have collaborated to create the Immigration Service and Aid Center (ISAAC). It is a nationwide effort to establish a network of local church-based immigration ministries. ISAAC will help local churches and other like-minded organizations set up a federally "recognized" immigration ministry centers which will then be allowed to legally provide immigration assistance.

ISaac's goals:

      • Helping churches and associations complete the "recognition" process;
      • Assisting the representatives of those organizations obtain "accreditation" from the Board of Immigration Appeals; and
      • Enabling churches take concrete steps toward effective immigrant ministry.

How can ISAAC help with the recognition and accreditation process?

ISAAC can provide:

  • Assistance in obtaining immigration law training*
  • Assistance in completing the "recognition" and "accreditation" process
  • Clergy citizenship assistance and referral
  • Education and information for churches on immigration matters
